Revitalising the Foundry Sector Through Digital Innovation
The foundry sector is a cornerstone of industrial production, supplying essential components for industries such as automotive, machinery, energy, and construction. Despite its critical importance, the sector is currently facing significant labour shortages. These challenges stem from persistent misconceptions about the sector, shifting career preferences among young people, and, most importantly, the limited alignment of vocational education programmes with modern industrial needs.
The DigiFoundry Project seeks to bridge the gap between education and industry, train a new generation of qualified professionals, and restore the sector’s appeal for young talents. To achieve this, DigiFoundry will develop an innovative digital foundry training platform that highlights the role of technology and transformation in today’s industry. The platform will feature:
A virtual reality foundry simulation offering an immersive, hands-on learning experience,
Digital training content and materials on casting techniques, green transformation, and digitalisation,
Informative resources designed to enhance both knowledge and engagement.
In addition, the project will organise collaborative events and awareness activities to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders and raise the overall visibility and appreciation of the foundry profession.
Goals of the Project
The DigiFoundry Project aims to strengthen the future of the foundry industry by addressing key challenges in workforce development and innovation. Its main objectives are:
Increase the supply of qualified labour for the foundry industry.
Boost interest and awareness of the foundry profession among young people.

Train a workforce skilled in modern production methods as well as in green and digital transformation within the sector.
